My name is Dave. I have things to say. I know not where I am going, only where I have been. When I get there, I'll be sure to let you know. If we meet along the way, let's do something.

One hell of a beach...

Friday morning we set off to look around Mount Pleasant (where the actual motel was) and then a little look at downtown Charleston. I got my first glimpse of a palm tree, and whilst it wasn't exactly boiling hot, it was a great feeling, especially knowing how cold it was back home. Mount Pleasant is an idyllic little island with some amazing houses right by the beach, and Charleston was a very charming little town. We didn't stay too long as we wanted to make our way down the coast towards Savannah, stopping at a couple of beaches on the way. We had planned to eventually make it over to Macon where we had arranged for a couch to surf on with our host Jacob.

Our first stop was Folly Beach, a beautiful little spot where we stopped to stroll along the beach and take in the surroundings. We stopped for a while to read our books and lie back in the sun. Then all of a sudden Drew pipes up "dude, what the fuck is that, look out there". I looked out but couldn't see anything. Then WHAM. There it was. A dolphin. Then another. And another. In the distance, small, but clear to see, the fin of a dolphin would appear and then disappear. We watched for few minutes in amazement, then decided it was time to move on.

We had a couple of hours to drive but we made it to Hilton Head Island in time for sun set. And WOW what a sunset. The view of the sun going down, and the sea, and the beach, and the amazing colours of violet, and red, and orange, were just amazing. As the sun disappeared I couldn't help but feel content with the day. A pretty relaxed day of travelling had seen some dolphins and the most amazing sunset, and we hadn't even reached Savannah or Macon yet.

We hit Savannah and stopped for dinner at the Moon River Brewery. They did a taster of their 9 home brews, and it would have been rude to turn that down. So we didn't. 9 home brews later, and dinner consumed, we went for a walk along the river. We conversed with a few street musicians, Drew purchased a locally made cigar, smoked a bit of it, donated the rest to some dude we got talking to, and by 9pm decided we best hit the road again as we had 3 more hours to Macon.

The drive to Macon was pretty uneventful. Oh, apart from nearly hitting a buck. A HUGE buck. With HUGE antlers. Drew swerved out of the way just in time for me to look it full on in the face as we zoomed past it at 75mph. That buck was 'this' close to having a Subaru flatten it, and the Subaru was 'this' close to having antlers permanently attached to its windscreen. A close call to the say the least.

We rolled into Macon at 11:30 and met our host Jacob at a local bar. He was hosting someone else at the same time, Ray, and we also met another local couchsurfing host, Daryl. Daryl was quite a character, and once we got talking it turned out that he had spent 8 years travelling the world on a motorbike, visiting over 60 countries. We returned to Jacob's house, about 20 minutes out from Macon, and it was an amazing house, one he had designed and built himself. As Ray had got there earlier that day he got the spare bedroom, whilst Drew and I took the two couches. A long day had come to an end, and it was time to hit the sack. Dolphins, two beaches, a glorious sunset, a Savannah Brewery and Macon travellers were enough to send me into a blissful couch slumber...
