My name is Dave. I have things to say. I know not where I am going, only where I have been. When I get there, I'll be sure to let you know. If we meet along the way, let's do something.

Rule Britannia...

Couch Surf etiquette is that you privately message anyone you want to stay with, but there is the 'last minute couch' option, which entails searching for groups that may relate to where you're going, usually simply the name of the town, and leaving a generic message. Bagel in hand I joined the 'Charlotte', 'North Carolina's Triangle', 'North Carolina' and 'Asheville & WNC' groups, stating our needs and our telephone numbers.

We hit the road.

By mid afternoon we had 6 options. A couple of messages on the website when we had the chance to check, and 4 options via our phones (either text or call). It really was amazing. People reaching out to us to help give us a place to stay. We checked them out on the website, weighed up our options, and decided Carrboro was the best option in terms of our driving schedule, so I gave Lori a ring and it was set. To Carrboro we went. Via Colonial Williamsburg. Which was AMAZING. Without going into the history, it was colonised by, yep, the English. It still has buildings dating back to 1699. And people dressed of the period. And the British flag stuck up.

From there we made the 3 hour drive to Carrboro and went to meet Lori. We met a bunch of her friends and played Catchphrase. She had a great place to stay, with a blow up mattress and a futon. For breakfast she provided us with bagels and tea. She really was a wonderful host, and in a strange way it felt wrong passing through so quickly, but that's the nature of travelling sometimes. She was so kind letting us stay at short notice, and the next morning we made our way. A quick drive around town, and then it was time to hit the highway again. Our next stop would be Asheville. And yet another random series of events leading us to our next couchsurf host... (and an awful lot of rain)

Ha ha dave, I've been to colonial Williamsburg too!,

I went in the sweltering heat when I was 13. I remember trying to catch them out mentioning stuff like TV's and other futuristic devices. They were good.

Enjoying the blog as ever, keep it up!

OH yeah, I forgot to mention...
